Raw Colours is an initiative founded by Alexa Potashnik. Alexa Joy Potashnik is the Founder of Black Space Winnipeg, Host of Raw Colours on CKUW 95.9FM, local vocal percussionist known as MC Woke and the former Racialised Student Commissioner with the Canadian Federation of Students - MB. The initiative began as a radio program on CKUW and is currently being relaunched as a podcast.
In the larger view, the purpose of Raw Colours as an organization is to serve artists of colour through grant writing, marketing, sponsorship, and event coordination services. The organization will pursue publicity opportunities and provide a platform for artists of colour and business owners of colour to ensure visibility and diversity in Winnipeg’s public sphere.
The advisory committee behind Raw Colours includes Heba Abdel-hamid, co-owner of Arabesque Hookah Cafe; Kammer Kinnarath, co-host of the Gay Lunch Podcast; and critical race scholar at the University of Winnipeg, Dr. Jenny Heijun Wills.
